Controlled by Christ’s Love

We are all controlled by something. It might be our appetite or our bank account or our responsibilities at home or at work. Even a hermit who lives by himself is controlled by the need to eat and sleep. Some of us are controlled by more sinful passions and pastimes, and until we come into a life transforming relationship with Jesus Christ, we are all controlled by our un-redeemed nature.

But the follower of Jesus is called to be controlled by something altogether different. 2 Corinthians 5:14 tells us “Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life.” No longer are those of us who have trusted Christ to live according to the old nature and the old passions. Instead, we are called to be passionate about sharing the love of Jesus with others. Our desire becomes wanting to reveal to the world through our actions and attitudes that love that Jesus has for them (Is it?). Our desires change from selfishly desiring what pleases us and meets our needs, to instead share the love of Jesus with others (Has it?). Our focus changes from ourselves to others. As Jesus’ love controls us, others begin to notice how different we are from how we used to be.

How am I…how are you controlled by Christ’s love today? And how is that being expressed towards others?
