I’ve often heard people say, “my faith is a private thing.” What that really means is that they don’t want to discuss religion with you. While at first this seems like an innocuous statement, particularly in a society that respects “my space”, it isn’t at all a Biblical sentiment.
Nowhere does the Lord give us; His followers permission to keep our faith to ourselves. We who live in Canada at least have the freedom to share Christ with others without fear of arrest and imprisonment. Christians living in many nations of the world understand all too clearly that the Biblical mandate is for believers to share the Good News and recognize that there is a cost but also a powerful blessing as HIS truth is sprinkled sown by HIS faithful followers.
Romans 10:9 is very clear: “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Our relationship with Jesus is a matter of faith and while it is a reasonable decision, it must not simply be a mental acknowledgment of the Lordship of Jesus. No, there must be a passion, an imperative in our heart, a decision that transforms us from the inside out.
Salvation is a matter of the heart. And when Jesus is welcomed as Lord, and the transformation takes place, it must surely bubble up within us so much that we can’t help but tell others what Jesus has done for us. Salvation begins in the heart, but it must be expressed with the public proclamation that Jesus is Lord.
How are you expressing that today?
