It has been said that the longer a couple is married they more they start to look like each other. While this is probably an old tale, there is a truth to the principle in the spiritual realm.
We really do look spiritually like what we spend our lives focused on. If we spend all of our time focused on sinful things, before long our hearts will be filled with darkness and depravity. But if we keep our eyes focused on godly things, our hearts will be filled with His light.
Hebrews 12:2 makes this very clear. It says “…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Jesus is the author, the pioneer of our faith. Our redemption was through and is only through HIM and He was the One who set about to accomplish all HE has for us. He chose to step out of heaven and onto this planet. He chose the cross in order to take upon Himself the punishment that our sins deserve. He was the one who birthed the Church on the day of Pentecost. And if He was able to set all of this into place, how much more is He able to bring into completion our salvation?
So may we keep our eyes fixed on Him today and watch Him grow your life and faith towards His goal of perfecting it.
