HERITAGE COMMITTEE HEARINGS ON M103 HAVE STARTED – WHY YOU SHOULD CARE

Does racism exist in Canada…you bet? Does anti-Muslim sentiment in Canada = racism. No, it doesn’t.   M103 does not define what that phrase means, and this is what makes it such a dangerous motion – now before the Heritage Committee in Parliament. The motions mover MP Iqra Khalid has steadfastly refused to clarify, to provide the sorely needed definition.  This is a glaring and apparent intended obfuscation of the motions intent. And what is that intent? As a thankful and proud Canadian…I don’t take lightly to seeing the values of my Canada being attacked and eroded.

This motions agenda is clear; cementing into legislation the following notions; notions that become much more than that – and as such alarmingly dangerous. This motion includes in the definition of Islamophobia; any criticism of Islam and Islamic practice.  This would now be defined under an umbrella of anti-Muslim Bigotry.  Proponents try to allay concerns by suggesting that the motion is non binding.   My response, the intentional vagueness of the term Islamophobia in the motion tends to make it all-inclusive, and again that seems to have been kept vague with intent.

The motion compromises a person’s freedom to criticize and challenge.   This in Canada…free….for now Canada. Give your heads a shake people, and see what is going on around us with very little fanfare and press attention.   M103 is a political tool to empower those opposed to freedom to make legitimate the silencing of any honest public discourse on this one topic – Islam.

Muslims, just like all religious groups in Canada, are already protected in Canada by our Charter of Rights and Freedoms and criminal law. There is no need for a separate law, especially one with known support by groups with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood….who in essence are trying to put in place a form of Sharia blasphemy law under our noses and without anyone noticing.

Oh Canada….I stand on guard for thee. Will you?
