HE is the Hero

I love stories with cool heroes who present themselves as indestructible and powerful figures who always save the girl and look cool in the process…why? Stories like that allow myself and maybe you as well to imagine ourselves in that heroic role. We want to be the hero. OK, at least I do…I admit it. It’s super cool to be the guy whose bullets never miss and who can’t ever be hit; the guy who can catch the ledge when he’s falling off the roof. In real world terms, we want to be the person who gets the job and keeps it. We want to be the person with the right answer, who does the right thing, who accomplishes their goals in the end. Heroes from movie though, are an impossible standard to hold ourselves to. Unlike these mythic superstars, we are not bulletproof. We reach for the ledge as we’re falling, but our fingers don’t catch.

So even though that is what we want and may even dream about, what we need and who we really are is the one in need of RESCUE…we are the ones in desperate need of a hero!

As our lives go on, sometimes in periods full of failure and uncertainty, we can find our joy in knowing the real hero has written a victorious ending to the story. An ending where he gets the credit, but we GET rescued….and no HE never fails.

“God rescued us from the dark power of Satan and brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son, who forgives our sins and sets us free.”
Colossians 1:13-14
